University Entrance

  UNIVERSITY ENTRY REQUIREMENTS


Entry to University 

University Entrance (UE) will continue to be the minimum requirement to go to a New Zealand university. 

To gain University Entrance you must have the following? 

 

 

NCEA Level 3:

(60 credits Level 3 or higher credits +   20 credits Level 2+)

14 credits at Level 3 or above in an approved subject

A minimum of 42 credits of the 60 credits must be from 3 approved subjects

5 credits at Level 2 or above in Reading

+

5 credits at Level 2 or above in Writing

=

10 credits from an approved list of Level 2 or 3 Standards

10 credits in Maths at Level 1 or higher from approved standards

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

To Clarify: 

  • All Level 3 courses at Papanui High School provide credits that count towards NCEA Level 3.
  • NCEA Level 3 can be gained without achieving University Entrance - it depends on your choice of subjects.
  • University Entrance can only be achieved by taking at least 3 subjects from the Approved Subject list.
  • In each Level 3 course outline it will state if that course is on approved subject list for University Entrance. 

 Please Note: Credits gained from the courses in the table below will count towards NCEA Level 3 but will not count towards University Entrance as the courses are not on the approved subject list.
