Teacher in Charge: Mr I. Reeves
This course studies a broad variety of Science, with an emphasis on Chemistry and Physics. This is designed for students who wish to pursue Physics and/or Chemistry in Year 12 and 13. Topics in this course build on topics presented in Years 9 and 10 and further develop understanding of the Nature of Science.
Classes will study from the following areas, although the exact topics may vary year to year:
1. Mechanics and motion
2. Fundamentals of electricity.
3. Language of chemistry and chemical reactions.
4. Investigation in Science.
This course will offer 16 credits and will be selected from the list below. Students will not NOT complete all of the assessment listed, but 4 will be selected each year.
FUTURE POSSIBILITIES
This course can lead into a number of different Science pathways in the Senior school, including specialist Science subjects (Physics and Chemistry) and a variety of semester courses offering smaller areas of specialty or multidisciplinary contexts.
AGRICULTURE 23S - Semester, ASTRONOMICAL STUDIES 21S - Semester, BIOLOGY 21F - Full Year, CHEMISTRY 21F - Full Year, GENERAL SCIENCE 22S - Semester, HORTICULTURE 23S - Semester, LIFE SCIENCES 22S - Semester, PHYSICS 21F - Full Year
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery$20.00 for a workbook
It would benefit students to have their own device (laptop or chromebook).
Open Entry but note that a student can only choose ONE Science option at Year 11.
