Course Description

Digital Technologies is the fastest growing industry and students that have a genuine interest and do well in this area are highly sort after.

This course develops valuable design, development, programming and electronics skills. Knowledge of computer science will be used to effectively communicate and present information. This subject is about problem solving and creating rather than just being users of digital technologies. Students will also work through the technology process, from generating ideas to producing outcomes. In this course we encourage students to link with a passion of theirs whether, that is another subject they love or something extra-curricular.

This course will develop:
• Skills in designing and developing a digital outcome • Specific programming skills
• Specific electronics skills • Planning a project • Computational Thinking • Evaluating
• Understanding of HCI (Human Computer Interaction) • Knowledge & understanding of Algorithms

Term 1 will be spent on students developing skills in Scratch and/or Python and Micro:bits.
In Terms 2 and 3 students will decide on a project and spend this time learning, creating and sharing to produce a completed digital technologies outcome.

Students will have choice in their direction, based on their prior experiences and interests. Students are able to take both DTM11 and DTP11 should they might wish to work on a bigger project by combining both areas.

Recommended Prior Learning

Completion of the Year 10 Digital Technologies course or previous computing experience (not just playing games). Have an interest in programming and/or electronics and be good at Mathematics.
