Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr P. Washbourn

This course extends knowledge and experience gained in Year 10 Outdoor Education and prepares students for Outdoor Education in Years 12 and 13.
It focuses on identifying and explaining landforms, understanding safety management, exploring participation in the outdoors and underlying issues in the outdoor sector.
There are a number of unit standards which give a range of experiential outdoor activities, including mountain biking, rock climbing, abseiling and orienteering.


Assessment
The assessment programme is a mixture of Achievement Standards and Unit Standards. All of the standards are internally assessed.

Future Possibilities
This course will develop awareness for outdoor environments, safety management and skills and will lead into senior Outdoor Education, Sustainability and Eco-Tourism.


Pathway

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

A full course contribution will be $250.00. This includes a base contribution of $50 with additional trip contributions (two overnight trips and multiple field trips).

Note
Students may need to provide some of their own equipment for aspects of this course including basic outdoor clothing and equipment – raincoat (waterproof and preferably breathable), thermal base layer clothing, synthetic or wool insulation layer clothing, sturdy footwear, sleeping bag and mountain bike.
