Year 10 Design Technology - Half Year

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr D. Greenwood.

This course continues from Year 9 Workshop Design or Year 9 Industrial Design. The focus of this course is about designing and making projects for user or client needs and possibilities. 

Skills:

  • Researching existing solutions and related products 

  • Brief investigation to know the possibilities of a project and the technical limitations 

  • Client statements to know client requirements

  • Design planning for possible construction techniques (lap joints, box joint, mitered and more) 

  • Materials testing of prototypes and construction techniques to create a refined final project

  • Personal reflections and evaluations with the use of I.C.T. throughout the course

  • Develop safe working practices within a workshop environment   

Projects:

Various smaller scale projects depending on the classes personal interest and a major project of a working “Wireless Speaker Box”  
 

This course will develop students' higher level thinking skills to enable them to access the required higher thinking and evaluation that will then enable them to take on the Design Technology course in Year 11.
